Founder and CEO Emeritus, Black Diamond Equipment Company
Peter R. Metcalf is the founder and recently retired CEO of Black Diamond Equipment. He is credited with making Utah one of America’s primary centers for the Outdoor & Ski industries, has been honored as the SBA’s small business person of the year from Utah, is the state’s Entrepreneur of the Year, and served as Vice Chair of the Outdoor Industry Association (OIA).
Mr. Metcalf currently serves on a number of Boards including the Salt Lake City Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Zions Bank, Brooklyn Boulders (a PE-backed chain of climbing gym/social gathering facilities), the Conservation Alliance, the user advocacy umbrella organization Outdoor Alliance, the Conservation Lands Foundation, and American Alpine Club. He is also an advisor to several Utah-based conservation and environmental NGOs.
For over 25 years, Peter has been an active advocate & leader in state and federal policy formulation relative to public lands, business recruitment and retention, recreation, and quality of life issues.
Mr. Metcalf is a graduate of the University of Colorado, with a major in Political Science. He holds a Certificate in Management from the Peter Drucker Center of Management.
